Antique Bruges Rose and Clover Floral Pattern Soft Bobbin Lace φ60 Doily

An 18th-century antique lace from Belgium.
This Bruges lace, with its delicate, airy petals and leaves crafted with bobbins, offers a wonderfully cool and refreshing feel.

This is a large, elegant round doily featuring bobbin lace with a rich, yet light, border of lacy roses, small flowers, shamrocks, and vines.

The center is thin and soft, while the surrounding lace is fluffy and gentle. The edge is finished with a delicate picot lace.

The lace outlines are rendered with a stippled effect. The difference in mesh density creates subtle three-dimensionality, shading, and variations in color intensity. It resembles the Duchesse lace technique, I feel.

It retains a clean, fresh off-white color, as if it were original.

The trim is abundantly adorned with flowers, stems, and leaves expressed in soft curves. Instead of sharp outlines, there are openwork and stippled details on the edges and veins of the leaves.

Linear bridges with picots connect the motifs, and hexagonal braids link these bridges. The lacy coolness of the half-stitch-like work is lovely. The flower stamens and pistils are decorated with spider embroidery.

It is soft and smooth, with a pleasant crispness and a silky feel. The lace appears to be linen, the fabric cotton, or perhaps a linen and cotton blend. It feels light, as if filled with air and ready to dance in the wind.
